Sounds like you're right on track from reading the former posts: If it is a vacuum problem (in the petcock), switching the petcock to prime when the problem happens should clear it right up.
I have a 250 Marauder (called just a GZ250 in the US for some reason). Before I start it, I always switch to prime if it hasn't been started in a few days. Otherwise it dies once or twice before it gets going good.
It's amazing how much I've learned from reading these posts, even though I don't (yet) own a Savage. Let us know how it turns out. Patrick.
